Fascia boards support your guttering. When fascias rot, gutter brackets lose their fixing, gutters sag, joints open up, and water pours down the wall instead of into the downpipe. Soffits ventilate your roof space — when they deteriorate, either ventilation is lost (causing condensation in the loft) or gaps open up that birds and wasps exploit. Bargeboards protect the exposed edge of your roof structure at the gable end.
